Snow and ice keep crews busy NOVEMBER 21 - The first real snowfall came through the greater Shrewsbury area today, causing the road to become icy. Crews from Station 61 were busy responding to car accidents as a result of the icy roads. At one point Rescue 61 was as far north as exit 10 on I-83. Shrewsbury Volunteers receive animal rescue devices NOVEMBER 19 - On November 19th representatives from Happy Tails presented Shrewsbury Volunteers with oxygen recovery masks for small to large size dogs/cats. Happy Tails is a group of dedicated dog and cat owners dedicated to animal safety. Working fire in Hopewell Township NOVEMBER 19 - At approximately 09:40 hours this morning a first alarm assignment was dispatched to a reported kitchen fire on Oakwood Drive in Hopewell Township. Enroute, York County fire dispatch advised Chief 54 (Eureka Fire Co. Chief Walker) a firefighter on location had heavy smoke coming from the mobile home. Commercial Vehicle Fire Closes I-83 NOVEMBER 11 - At 23:01hrs, Station 61 was dispatched to Interstate 83 south bound for a possible tractor trailer fire. York Co. Dispatch advised Chief 61-1 (Cadden) that the vehicle was carrying some type of paper product. Station 61 assists at Working Fire in Codorus Township NOVEMBER 10 - At 11:29 hours Station 61 was alerted for a first alarm mutual aid assignment in Codorus Township. Stations 58, 59, 7, and 61 were dispatched for a reported structure fire at the Rutters Store on Rt 851 near Middletown Rd. NOVEMBER 02 - The Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind residents to change your smoke detector batteries when you change your clocks this weekend. It is recommended to change your batteries twice a year. If you do not have a smoke detector, we will be happy to provide you with one.
