Are you AWARE that the Stewartstown Water Authority applied at the end of August for a permit to draw water from Ebaughs Creek to fill a reservoir (catch-basin) for our drinking water?

Are you AWARE that the head waters of Ebaughs Creek originate at the landfill, a superfund site? A superfund site is an extremely polluted area that usually consists of toxic substances and requires extensive clean-up. (according to the York County Solid Waste and Refuse Authority and the PA Department of Environmental Protection)

Are you AWARE that tests done by an Ohio laboratory found that leachate from the landfill is the reason water fleas in Ebaughs Creek are dying, according to Borough Utility Coordinator Robert Hunt, as quoted in the Weekly Record, Sept. 1, 1998?

Are you AWARE that the Susquehanna River Basin Commission study states that 'results indicate that nutrient enrichment was producing a large number of impairments in this area (Pennsylvania-Maryland creeks). Knowing the nature of the land use in the area, which is predominately agricultural and pastureland, one can only extrapolate (deduce) that overuse of fertilizers and agricultural runoff may have been factors in the impairment of these sites.'?

Are you AWARE that, according to a 1997 study requested by the water authority, 'within the next 25 years, the authority will again be looking for an additional water source at a far greater cost than is currently being considered', if they use Ebaughs Creek?

Are you AWARE that a call for voluntary water restrictions could soon be made official? Since 1966 The York Water Company has never required restrictions due to lack of water.
