Guy Hook, Stewartstown Borough Council and Stewartstown Water Authority member, recently wrote on the Stewartstown.com web site "the authority represents ALL water customers". We don't agree.
Everyone (including the Water Authority) agrees the current water system can not handle our future needs. The Penn Dept of Environmental Protection (DEP) told the Water Authority that they can not use Ebaughs Creek as a source of additional water. The Water Authority is currently investigating what it would cost to connect our system to Red Lion's and purchase bulk water from them.
Attached is a cost-comparison matrix of the available solutions to our water problem. The information in this matrix is the same information the water authority received from the Red Lion Municipal Authority engineers (C.S. Davidson) and York Water Company engineers to determine costs per 1000 gallons.
AWARE, along with 800 of your neighbors who signed our petition, supports the sale of the water system to The York Water Company.
In the March 3rd York Weekly Record, Stewartstown Water Authority member Louisa Jordan stated that "The preliminary figures indicate construction costs to get water from Red Lion could be about three times that of the cost to build lines connecting Stewartstown to the York Water Company's lines in Shrewsbury.", and in the March 12th York Sunday News Ms. Jordan stated that "The price of the water would cover the cost of the pipeline so that Red Lion authority and their customers would not pay the bill. We or anyone else along the pipeline that used the water would pay the bill."
The Water Authority has YOUR future in their hands. Let them know what YOU, the water customer, want!!! Call and tell them that you do not want them to waste your money connecting to Red Lion. Tell them that you still want them to sell the water system to York Water Co.
