May 1, 2001 Dear Praying Friends:

That is, are you praying? I'm sure that we still experience rough times even though you are praying. But as we wind down here, it's been a really stressful time. We appreciate your prayers on all the transitions of moving.

Craig has another type of malaria--although the dozen blood tests will not show it. Imagine running for blood tests three times a day, then special trips to the doctor twice--all while you're trying to transition. Travel time home from the doctor's one night was two hours long. The second appointment, Craig was strong enough to use his motorcycle. He will need to take another type of medicine that will deplete his immune system. We are thankful for a knowledgeable nutritionist that can revitalize Craig's body for our furlough ministry

The van stopped dead on the highway after church on Sunday. The alternator was so clogged up with mud from past floods that it hardened and stuck it up. After the repair, another quick trip back to the electrician this morning to fix the crossed wires on the automatic locks. A buyer is supposed to look at the van this morning. We are confident in a God Who gives strength through the details of life.

Much packing and many things to move. We are thankful for neighbors helping in many details.

We are signing off. Lord willing, we are flying on Saturday, May 5. This computer gets packed up later today. We can read your messages in the USA. And by the way, we've only given you the bad news, not the worst things happening. Thanks for your continued prayer support in the transitions of life.

In His glad service,
Craig and Elaine Kennedy

March-April 2001

Health Update: Craig has fully recovered from his bout with Malaria. We praise the Lord for good strength and no relapses.

Change of E-Mail Address: Please note our e-mail address is changed to ncraigkennedy@yahoo.com . We will use this address from this time forward. It is a web based e-mail so we will use it while we are in the USA and when we return to the Philippines. We will be sending and receiving messages with this address from anywhere in the world. We encourage our supporting churches that do not have e-mail to take advantage of this very helpful tool in communicating the work of the Lord around the world.

Church-Based Missionary Training: Years of planning, promoting and developing this program has finally resulted in two churches launching this pilot training program for perspective missionaries to other countries of Asia. We are targeting lay professionals who are not able to attend a traditional Bible College for training but who evidence the leading of the Lord and who have spiritual gifts for ministry. We are meeting with five learners on Sunday afternoon in one church, while another in Leyte is about to begin meeting with four to six lay professionals. Some of the learners in our group in Manila will be taking a ministry trip to Nepal about the time we leave for the USA. We wish we were going with them, but they will be led by one of our other ABWE missionaries who is also interested in this needy country.

Special prayer requests

-Praise the Lord for the 32 BBS&I 2001 graduates. Of these graduates, a higher percentage than ever will be returning to their places of internship for ministry. Pray for the remaining few as they decide where best to serve the Lord. One of our tribal students, Shirley, effectively defended herself at gun point while on ministry assignment during internship.

-Strength and wisdom to pack, sell, and downsize our life here now that our family is all in the USA. Last week we built, packed, and shipped two crates to New York filled with keepsakes, books, and personal effects.

-Wisdom for Pastor Nimrod Gabilo as he considers taking on more responsibility for the TEE program, especially during our furlough in the USA.

-Myra's testimony is strengthening and she continues to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. Pray that we will find just the right person to continue leading her in her discipleship sessions.

-Joyce, as she faces many responsibilities in her student teaching requirements.

-Justin, as he considers the Lord's will for his life. He plans to return to BBC next year to pursue a degree in Communications.

Furlough Plans

Our regular furlough is scheduled for 2002-2003. However, several months ago, we sought clearance from our sending church and from ABWE to take an early but shortened furlough in order to attended Joyce's graduation from BBC on May 11, and also to begin transitioning into a two-year term with six-months' furlough schedule. This sounds even better to us now since being treated for malaria. We plan to arrive home on May 5 before Joyce's graduation and return to the Philippines mid-January 2002 (not a bad time to leave central NY). We hope to visit all our supporting churches during the period, although it might mean doubling up an occasional Sunday. We are currently scheduling meetings for May and June and will be taking a few meetings during the summer to assure visiting our 30 plus churches before the end of the year. We are also making contacts in churches that do not support us at the present with the expectation of adding three or four churches to our support base.

In His glad service,
Craig & Elaine Kennedy
