Missionaries to Singapore
Dear Pastor and Church, Greetings from the Lion City, Singapore! The older we get, the more we realize what a blessing it is to be able to serve the Lord! Aches and pains remind us that we are certainly not going to have this privilege forever, so we are thankful for every day He gives us be involved in His great plan of world evangelization, especially in this area of the world. We had a special day at Heritage Baptist Church recently called “Friend Day.” The folks worked hard to invite their friends and family, and the Lord blessed by giving us 150 in attendance. Brother Ray Crocker preached a wonderful salvation message. After the service, I had the opportunity to talk at length with a Chinese man named David Chan. He listened intently to the precious message of the Gospel, and was visibly stirred, but wants to think about all those truths that are so new to him. Please pray for Mr. Chan, that the Holy Spirit will germinate the seed that has been sown in his heart. A French lady who came on Friend Day returned the following week and came forward during the invitation. Sharon had the privilege of taking her to the church office and leading her to Christ. Sharon has started discipleship sessions with her on Wednesday nights before prayer meeting, but she has been given a heavier workload at the French Embassy, so Satan is already at work to hinder her from growing in her new life in Christ. Please pray for Patricia as the Lord brings her to mind. Sharon had a couple of places on her back biopsied, fearing skin cancer, but we are thankful that the results for both were negative. While sitting in the church service last week, I looked around at the people attending, and thanked the Lord once again for putting us in such a multi-cultural setting. To my knowledge there were folks from France, Singapore, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and the U.S. in the service! Thank you for allowing us to be your representatives among so diverse a people. Thank you also for your offering for the month of July Because He lives, Dan and Sharon May 2001 Dear Pastor and Church, We are over half way through our ten week furlough, and it has been a whirlwind of activity. As I mentioned in last month’s letter, the Lord enabled us to spend Mother’s Day with both of our mothers. It was also Grammy Kendall’s 86th birthday, and it was great to take that opportunity to have a family reunion. All of our kids and their families were able to come, and we praise the Lord for the safety in travel that He gave everyone. It may be the last time on this earth that all of us will be together in that manner. We also had the opportunity to be with our sending church, Cook Road Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio, where Pastor Jack Hackworth is our sending pastor. We had a few days to help work on the new building being built by Southside Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma, where our son-in-law, Brent Loveless, pastors. We are hoping to be able to be in the first service held in that building, before we leave to go back to Singapore on July 6th. Sharon has gotten some much-needed dental work done and is scheduled to see her rheumatologist in Springfield, Missouri, on July 2nd. She has been having some lupus-related symptoms lately, but we are praising the Lord that overall, she has been doing well during this trip. I got my first check-up in over 10 years (that’s too long to wait, by the way), but so far the test results have been good. I have an intermittent cough which has been diagnosed as asthma, for which the doctor prescribed some medication. I also saw an orthopedist about the pain in my hips and legs, and he concurred with the doctor in Singapore that it is being caused by the pinching of nerves in the lower part of my spine. I am being treated with a pain killer , vitamins, and herbal supplements at present, but may have to have a back operation in the future. I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy (oh, joy!)and see a GP for the final evaluation of my checkup on June 28th. The Lord willing June will see us visiting our children and grandchildren in Florida, Texas, and Oklahome, before returning to Singapore. Thanks so much for your continued prayer for our safety on the roads during our travels. News from Singapore is encouraging, as the Heritage Baptist School of Theology goes on during our absence. Thank you also for your financial support for the month of May. Because He lives, Dan and Sharon April 2001 Dear Pastor and Church, Another month has flown by! It seems only yesterday that I sat down to compose our prayer letter for March! We had a wonderful Easter service at Heritage Baptist Church here in Singapore. A young couple who were recently saved followed the Lord in baptism, and have started the discipleship program. Brother Edwin Lee, who recently surrendered to full-time service began classes in the Heritage Baptist School of Theology. By the time you receive this letter, Sharon and I should be in the States. June is one of the Singaporean school system’s vacation months, so we usually follow suit at the School of Theology, since most of the students have families, and want to have family activities during that time. I was able to clear my schedule of teaching for May as well, so Sharon and I decided it would be a golden opportunity to make a trip to the States to see to some important family matters. Sharon’s sister is planning a family reunion to celebrate their mother’s 87th birthday, which happens to fall on Mother’s Day this year. ”Grammy” Kendall’s memory is not what it used to be (whose is?), and we want to be with her while she is still able to recall who we are. We hope to have my mother present with us at the same time. We also will be visiting children and grandchildren in Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, and Illinois. Sharon is scheduled to have at least one appointment with her rheumatologist in Springfield, Missouri, and yours truly plans to have a complete physical as well. It will be a whirlwind trip, and we would appreciate your continued prayer on our behalf. Once again, please remember that our street address in Singapore has changed. If you have been sending mail to 29A How Sun Drive, Singapore 538581, please change it to 9 How Sun Drive, Singapore 538533. Thank you once again for being so faithful in your prayer and financial support. Thank you especially for your support for the month of March. Because He lives, Dan and Sharon March 2001 Dear Pastor and Church, The month of March has been another very busy month. Besides the classes for the Heritage School of Theology, a youth camp and a missions conference were held back to back in order to take advantage of the public school holidays. Those holidays allowed the church families to attend services during the weeknights Both the camp and the missions conference were great successes. The young people were challenged for missions as well. The faith promise offering exceeded last years by approximately $5,000.00, and the church was able to take on the two men who were recently ordained, one as a home missions project and one to Malacca, Malaysia. It was also a thrill to see a young married couple with two small children surrender to missions. We will have the privilege of training Brother Edwin Lee in our School of Theology in the near future. Thank you again for continuing to pray for Sharon. She has found relief from her dizziness from a very unexpected source-a chiropractor. After a few treatments, she has improved greatly, and says that she feels almost “normal,” which is a great relief after feeling “subnormal” for so long. Dan was helping another missionary load a shipping container a couple of weeks ago, and a hip problem has reoccurred, so he is seeing the same chiropractor. That’s real togetherness! We’ve had an opportunity to invite the American chiropractor to church, and Sharon has had an opportunity to talk to one of his Indian nurses about the Lord. You might remember both of them in prayer as well. Our landlord decided to sell our apartment, so we have had to move (in Singapore they say “shift”). We just had to move to another unit in the same condo, but even so, moving is becoming a bigger hassle as we get older. If you have been sending mail to our 29A How Sun Drive address, please change to: 9 How Sun Dr., Sun Rosier Condo, Singapore 538533, our new phone number is 65-288-5989. Thanks once again for your part in keeping us here in Singapore. Because He lives, Dan and Sharon Home| Faith Statment| Salvation| Pastors Page| Missionaries Sermons| N. F. C.
