Zoning Ordinance

On October 13, 1976, East Hopewell Township adopted a Zoning Ordinance which is enacted as part of the overall plan for the orderly growth and development of East Hopewell Township. As such, this ordinance is based upon the expressed or implied community development objectives set forth in the East Hopewell Township Comprehensive plan. The goal of the ordinance is to strike a balance between maintaining the rural charm of East Hopewell and providing property owners with more flexibity.

Copies of the Zoning Ordinance are available for purchase at the East Hopewell Township Office. Anyone interested in reviewing the zoning ordinance may also make an appointment with the zoning officer to review the ordinance or to review how a particular parcel of land is affected by the zoning ordinance.

Building Codes and Permits

The Codes Enforcement Officer of East Hopewell Township is EML (Codes Enforcement) Inc. All questions regarding building, zoning, and permits should be directed here. Permits are required for the following:

• Sheds (including prefab sheds as well as stick built)
• Swimming Pools - both in ground and above ground styles
• Additions of any kind which you would like to add to your residence
• Finishing a Basement
• Decks
• Garages
• Fences
• Home Occupations
• Signs

The Codes Enforcement Office is located at 48 Church Street, Stewartstown PA 17363. The officers are E. Michael Lee (owner) and Herb Daugherty. Office hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:30 AM.
