Although the grade throughout the trail is reasonably level, New Freedom is the high point of elevation.  Users traveling north from New Freedom will experience a slight downhill.

Facilities along the trail include benches, Picnic tables and portable toilets.  Communities along the trail offer more extensive facilities.  See map for locations.  Trail and rest rooms are ADA accessible.

Sections of the trail are adjacent to the south branch of the Codorus Creek, A cold water trout stream.

Other features of the trail include the New Freedom Train Station, the Hanover Junction Train Station and the Howard Tunnel, the oldest operational railroad tunnel in the nation.  Trail access to the tunnel will be complete in 1999.
