The Golden Oldies

From The Director's Desk

The birds are singing and I think it is suppose to be spring, but I am not sure. You just never know when it is going to snow.  One thing I do know is that if we plan to invite Susquehanna Senior Center to visit for a Mardi Gras party, it will snow or there will be some kind of disaster.  April 2nd will be our fourth attempt to have them visit us.  If you are tired of looking at our Mardi Gras decorations, I apologize for that, but are determined to entertain Susquehanna center with our planned parade. The ladies put a lot of time and energy into this parade to just drop it. So bear with us until we get this event over with.

I think I finally have the figures in for the fasnachts we sold back in February. WE sold 264 dozen of fasnachts and made a profit of $1,043.47. We received a lot of extra donations when people purchased the fasnachts this year with really helped. Thanks again to all those that helping in any way to make this a successful project.

Since I have changed so many of our holiday events around this year, I am changing our Easter party also. We will celebrate Easter on the 10 of April and Eastern Senior Center will be visiting us, weather permitting.  So you have a little extra time to come up with an Easter bonnet for the parade. We will be judging the hats for the prettiest, most original and most festive.  So get busy and think up your special hat.  We will be having a special lunch that day also, so please sing up early to help us prepare enough food for everybody.

We have been invited to Susquehannock High School for the spring play "The Music Man" on April 12th.  They are not giving us a meal as they did in the past. They are just providing desserts; therefore we will go early and stop in Glen Rock at the Italian restaurant before we go to the school.  Make sure your signed up to go along.

It is time once again for the annual Regional Spelling Bee. We will have our bee on Friday, April 20th. So brush up on your spelling and participate in the bee. The winner will go to the county bee which will be help at the Penn State York campus on May 8th. The state spelling bee will be held during the Prime of Life at the fairgrounds this year.

I want to thank Kitty, Lynn and Ken for making such a beautiful display for our 33rd anniversary. Sorry we didn't have many people stop by to see it. For those of you that didn't see the display, I have asked them to remember what they did and we will have another display in May during Older Americans Month. Hopefully more guests will visit us then.

I want to thank all those that helped to make the candy for our Easter fundraiser. Even though we got off to a late start we did pretty well. Also thanks to Ida Harmon for her contribution of our new "peanut butter yummy" cookie that she made for us. It is a big hit. If you haven't tried them, you don't know what your are missing.

Experience works has found us another helper. Her name is Jane Mercer. We welcome her to the center and hope that we can help her to achieve her goals. I am sure she is overwhelmed by all the activity that goes on around her each day.

Love to All,

Rosie Horton, Center Director
