Marion E. Wilson, better known as "Joe", was born on January 3. 1917 in Shane. Maryland.  He had one sister who died at the age of nine years old. His dad, in addition to being a fanner.
worked on the State Roads.
Marion went to a one-room schoolhouse, "Leib's School" in Stewartstown. When Marion was
sixteen, he worked on Mr. Shane's farm and drove a truck to Baltimore, delivering vegetables to
the "Night Market." He then worked for five years at the Stewartstown Furniture Factory, in
Stewartstown, repairing new furniture that was damaged; he also traveled to schools to repair
damaged furniture. Marion also worked at night cleaning the factory. In 1943, at the age of 24,
he entered into the Army. He supervised 14 men, and was engaged as a "Paint Master," applying
paint to various types of Army vehicles. Marion served approximately 33 months, traveling
through places such as France, Germany, England and Belgium. After serving in the Army, he
returned to work at Stewartstown Furniture Factory, which later became Yorktowne Kitchens,
and worked there until he retired in 1981.
Marion met Viola S. Swift, in 1942 and they married in 1946. They lived in Stewartstown in a
two-room apartment, then in 1950, they decided to build a home. They first built the garage
(which was a one car garage with one room up top and two rooms below). After the garage was
built, they moved into the garage rooms, and continued on with building the main house.
In 1955 their son, Donald, was -born. Marion continued to work at Yorktowne Kitchens, and
Viola became a hard-working "stay at home mom  while maintaining the house, and sewing for
people. In June of 1977, Donald married Barb Wilson and they had two beautiful children; Eric,
who is now 23 years old and Ashley, who is now 18 years old. One of the popular highlights
with their grandchildren was to play board games and eating at McDonalds. After Marion
retired, he continued his passion and mastery in Woodworking. He made many things for his
family and friends. Some examples are beautiful wooden jewelry boxes, wooden trash cans,
stools, cabinets, wooden gingerbread men, games and picture frames, etc. Some of his
handywork can be seen at the Stewartstown Senior Center (wooden board game "Trouble" and
pictures with wooden frames hanging on the walls). Some of Marion's hobbies have been
gardening, bowling, eating out, and keeping his yard and lawn in tip-top shape. Best of all. he
still loves going out for breakfast or eating out any chance he gets!! He also enjoys spending
time at the Stewartstown Area Senior Center playing dominos or "Trouble"!!!
